Salina Approves SMC Contract
The Salina City Commission approved a contract with Salina Media Connection (SMC) Monday, Oct. 7. Under the contract, SMC will continue to play local government meetings, educational programs, and local content on its two cable channels. In exchange, the city agrees to help fund SMC’s operations.
The contract requires SMC to submit monthly reports and an annual strategic plan to the city.
Greg Stephens, Board Chair of Salina Media Connection, said SMC looks forward to meeting the challenges of a changing media landscape.
“We know the media world is changing, and digital media has challenges,” he said. “We also know there is less local news around. Those factors do really open the door for new opportunities and new ways to meet community needs.”
SMC Awarded $10,000 from The Earl Bane Foundation
The Earl Bane Foundation funded SMC's request to purchase three new computers, upgrade three older ones and purchase an external hard drive for program storage. The total amount awarded is $10,000. Thank you to the foundation and to Greg Stephens and Carol Miller Bell at SMC for your hard work in getting the grant.
